Abstract

Bluetooth is a standard for a short range wireless communication interface for voice and data between several electronic devices like mobile phones, personal computers, PDAs, and other gadgets. In this paper several usage scenarios of Bluetooth for communication between a customer and service providers are considered. The requirements to the infrastructure for a secure handling with sufficient protection of the privacy, allowing fast, comfortable, and advantageous applications in a heterogeneous environment, are presented. The main technique is a translation and encryption service provided by universal and personal mobile agents which intercede between the customer and the service provider. In this way, storage, computation, and communication are going to be reduced for energy saving in the mobile device. This allows an application of the proposed techniques even for devices with very tight energy budgets and restricted user interfaces (e.g. wrist watches).
