Abstract

Different systems of continuous glucose monitoring utilize graphically displayed trend arrows for the visualization of upcoming glucose trends. The feature can be observed in real-time glucose monitoring as well as in intermittent continuous glucose monitoring systems. In patients with diabetes, trend arrows are frequently considered to be a basis for metabolic corrections. Thus, the interpretation and understanding of trend arrows is a prerequisite for adequate therapy decisions. The aim of this publication is to present strategies for trend arrow interpretations, which can serve as a general guidance for diabetes teams and continuous glucose monitoring users to enable individual adaptations.
