Abstract

Urodynamic and clinical findings from 52 children with meningomyelocele are reported retrospectively. The importance of vesico-uretero-renal Reflux (VUR), especially in neurogenic bladder with elevated leak point pressures above 40 cm H2O, is discussed. Most important components of the therapy consist of a nonoperative combination of infection prophylaxis, medical management of bladder-function and clean intermittent catheterization (CIC). Invasive, mutilating operations e. g. resection of the bladder, conduits etc. are avoidable in childhood. On the other hand corrective operative intervention combined with medical therapy still plays an important role and leads to good results.
