Abstract

The iron complexes of daunorubicin, idarubicin, pirarubicin, and doxorubicin were prepared in anhydrous DMF and studied by absorption, circular dichroism, Mössbauer, and EPR spectroscopy. Metal complexation was studied in titration series at different metal/ligand ratios. Optical spectroscopy indicates the existance of two different complex species, which were further characterized by EPR and Mössbauer experiments. Structural models for both complex species, differing in complexation mode and degree of oligomerization, are proposed.
