Abstract
Cross-links hetween collagen molecules are essential for the mechanical quality of connective tissue. The cross-links can be divided into skeletal and skin specific cross-links. We analyzed the cross-link pattern of lipodermatosclerosis (LDS) in eight patients. All skin specimens of a sclerotic area contained higher levels of HP and LP than normal controls. Specific disturbances in collagen synthesis are required for the generation of these cross-links in the pathogenesis of LDS.
