Abstract

Sarcoma of the mammary glands is extremely rare. Liposarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, and hemangiopericytoma all are part of the soft-tissue sarcoma group. In June 2006 a 66-year-old woman received a primary diagnosis of malignant hemangiopericytoma of the breast. She underwent mastectomy with axillary lymph node sampling; adjuvant therapy was not required. In February 2007 the same patient presented with gluteal and lumbar back pain and right accentuated adynamia in both legs because of a disseminated osseous metastasis. Diagnostic investigation presented cerebral, pulmonary, cutaneous, hepatic, and pleural metastatic disease. Two months after initiation of chemotherapy, the patient died.
