Abstract
Schema therapy (ST) was developed by Jeffrey Young to help patients with chronic mental disorders who did not profit sufficiently from cognitive behavioral therapy. Meanwhile ST has evolved into one of the major evidenced based treatments for patients with personality disorders. This article provides a short overview of the theory and outcome data of ST. Techniques and distinctive features of schema therapy will be complemented by a case example.
