Potential of Memristors in Medical Image Processing and Concerns in the Clinical Context

Philipp Grothe, Jan Haase

Abstract

The memristor is a novel circuit element. Memory architectures and hardware implementations have arisen from its discovery that were not possible before. In an age of computer assisted diagnostics in medicine it is an obvious choice to apply computational advantages stemming from the utilization of memristors to these same self medical applications. We take a look at some procedures within the field of medical image processing that may benefit from memristor based implementations. This is not an exhaustive look, but a perspective for future research.Additionally, we raise concerns about memristors in the clinical context, for the risk of technological advances must not be forgotten in the light of their potential.
