Abstract

The effects of hypovolaemia on circulation and perfusion are the major determinants of a compromised oxygen delivery and organ failure. Perioperative fluid therapy aims to avoid hypovolaemia and includes replacement deficit, fluid maintenance, restoration of losses and substitution of fluid shifts between the compartments. Table 1 shows the indications for perioperative fluid therapy.
