N2 - Reliable image registration is a key problem within the three-dimensional reconstruction of data obtained by two-dimensional image stacks. Here, a parallel implementation of the so-called elastic matching algorithm approach is presented. This algorithm is based on a fixpointtype iteration, where in each step a linear system of equations has to be solved. To compute the solution of the linear systems fast fourier techniques are used. The algorithm as well as some numerical examples are presented.
