Abstract

Type 2 diabetology is being confronted with an ever increasing number of patients who exhibit complex cardiovascular complications already in the early stages and who cannot be adequately protected from such complications by the currently established therapeutic concepts. The consequences of this situation are not only health-political but also economic and medical problems. On the basis of our pathophysiological understanding about the occurrence of diseases, the currently established steps in diagnosis and therapy, especially under consideration of life-style interventions such as physical training, should be critically reevaluated.
