Abstract

This paper addresses two issues of speech pathology that are often underestimated: firstly, drug therapy for speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders and secondly, adverse reactions of drugs on voice, language, and swallowing functions. Examples for drug therapy are neurotransmitters for aphasia and Botulinum toxin for laryngeal dystonia. Examples for adverse reactions on drugs are voice disorders following corticoid inhalation and dysarthria following antipsychotic agents. This paper summarizes previous published overviews, textbook articles, and - for novel approaches - recent original articles.
