Abstract
This paper provides a brief review of the beginnings of neuroscience, seen from a speech language pathologist's view. It discusses the way neuroscientific methods may be used to explain language processing in the healthy brain, and how they may contribute to clarify the underlying mechanisms of specific communication disorders. The paper gives concrete examples of the way structural and functional imaging data may corroborate behavioral treatment efficacy data. Finally, it presents neurostimulation as an adjuvant therapeutic procedure in the treatment of speech, language, and swallowing disorders.
