Abstract
Such a review of progressive developments that have significantly influenced our obstetric standards today weakens our self-evidence of ubiquitous knowledge, creates down-to-earthness and sharpens the understanding of our current scientific achievements. In a predominantly patriarchal scientific culture, Madame du Coudray was at the forefront as a pioneer of obstetric simulation with her»mannequin«, her symbiosis of practical, robust architecture and anatomical-theoretical accuracy.
