N2 - We present iSense, a modular hardware and software platform for wireless networks that is intended for both industry and research applications. The hardware is arranged around a core module with an IEEE 802.15.4 compliant radio, a 32- bit RISC controller running at 16MHz, 96kbytes of memory, a highly accurate clock and a switchable power regulator. It can be combined with a number of sensor modules, different power sources, a gateway and I/O module and various others. The hardware is supplemented with a modular operating and networking firmware that is based on object oriented programming. A comprehensive development environment is available free of charge.
