Abstract
Due to the demand for proof of cosmetic products' efficacy and safety, non-invasive biophysical methods are used more and more. Besides the assessment of transepidermal water loss, the measurement of skin hydration, the skin surface lipids, the pH-value and the elasticity, the quantification of skin surface topography, colour and skin blood circulation are essential methods. These methods are suitable for evaluation of the moisturizing, smoothing and straightening effect of skin care products as well as for testing their irritancy. To perform measurements and to compare different skin function parameters, the standardization of measurement conditions is of utmost importance.
