Abstract
When it comes to verbal communication the question is almost never brought nearer to being answered by means of empirical studies of an answer which reports the desires and needs about which the patient wants to be informed. So far the question has been overlooked of what the patients really know about their illnesses and the problems connected with them. Above all, the authors hope that in what follows they will be able to deliver an empirically verified contribution to both of these neglected aspects of the sociology of the doctor patient relationship and of the patients.
