Abstract
For psychotherapy of depression cognitive behavioural therapy and interpersonal psychotherapy provided good empirical evidence. Within the last 20 years the so called "3rd wave of cognitive behavioural therapies" brought up new therapeutic methods. Especially the treatment of depression benefits from this development. Metacognitive therapy (MCT) for the treatment of acute major depression, the Cognitive Behavioural Analysis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP) for the treatment of chronic depression and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) as a relapse prevention programme will be introduced and a summery concerning their empirical evidence will be given.
