Abstract

Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is used in children for enteral feeding. Complications after removing the PEG tube without an endoscopic procedure are rarely described. We report on a male patient who developed bowel obstruction with perforation and severe peritonitis after removal of the PEG tube without endoscopic assistance; the "bumper" obstructed the ileocecal valve. Endoscopic removal of PEG tubes may avoid similar life-threatening complications.
