Abstract
Mastalgia ¡s defined as cyclical or non-cyclical pain syndrome in the female breast. Extramamal pain manifestations as e.g. cardial or pulmonal diseases are important differential diagnoses. Etiology of mastalgia is largely unknown and cause-specific treatments approaches are therefore still lacking. Simple measures as e.g. reassuring, wearing optimal bras and life style change encompassing nutrition advices. Backbones of medical treatment are topical progestogen, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, tamoxifen and dopamine agonists. Since randomized controlled studies are missing a high placebo effect must be supposed.
