Abstract

We have investigated the thermal decomposition of Fe(CO)5 in zeolite of Faujasite-type X and we have used mass spectroscopy and Mössbauer spectroscopy to monitor the formation of decomposition products. We have concluded from our studies that the pathway for the formation of crystalline iron clusters considerable depends on vacuum and heat treatment of Fe(CO)5 in NaX and includes as precursors mononuclear and polynuclear Fe(CO)3-systems and non-crystalline iron clusters.
