Erythropoietin and blood pressure

H. Pagel, W. Jelkmann, C. Weiss

Abstract

It is concluded from these results that recombinant human erythropoietin has no effect on total vascular resistance of the isolated kidney. Note that the reactions of the vascular system of the isolated kidney are nearly identical to those of the kidney in vivo (responsiveness to vasoactive substances; ability of autoregulation, not shown). Furthermore, the kidney is of central importance in the regulation of the systemic blood pressure.
