Abstract
Based on a very high alcohol consumption in the population of Germany quotas from 10 to 20% of inpatients in general hospitals may be resumed by the literature, quotas partially caused by considerable somatic comorbidity. In more recent studies from Luebeck, which are the most representative and valid at present available in Germany, 15.3% of medical or surgical inpatients and 12.5% among general practice patients proved to be alcohol dependent.
