Abstract

Programs of autologous blood predonations can be performed safely in cardiac surgery. The complication rate during the procedure of blood donation is possibly increased in patients with very restricted cardiac function only. This method unburdens blood donation services. The risk of erroneous identification of blood products are similar compared to homologous transfusion. Some risks, e. g. the danger of transmitting infectious diseases, are decreased, however. Therefore, the author believes that this method should find more attention.
