Abstract

The existence of two German states for more than 40 years resulted not only in a division of the people and the country but also at least a structural division of the academic world and the professional societies. The Society for Forensic Medicine of the GDR was founded in 1967 and dissolved in 1990. Historically, after the reunification the first all-German and then West German specialist society (German Society for Forensic Medicine, DGRM) continued the tradition of the German Society for Forensic Medicine founded in Merano in 1905. For the 100th annual conference of the DGRM, the 10 annual conferences of the specialist society of the GDR will also be honored.
