Abstract

AIMS: The aim was to determine whether interpersonal aspects influence the success of the Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP) versus the Metacognitive Therapy (MCT). METHODS: In this naturalistic study, we applied the IMI-R and the LQPT-SF to measure pre-interventional interpersonal skills. A Change Score of the QIDS-SR16 was calculated as an indicator of treatment success. In the main analysis we examined 85 patients (34 CBASP; 51 MCT). RESULTS: Treatment with CBASP and MCT led to a significant reduction in the depressive symptomatology. Subjects with marked pre-interventional hostile-submissive behavior yielded lower treatment success in CBASP as compared to subjects initially scoring low in hostile-sub- missiveness. The mentioned parameter value had no influence on treatment success in MCT. CONCLUSIONS: If the results are replicable, it would imply that patients with a predominantly hostile-submissive interaction style should rather be offered MCT than CBASP.
