Abstract

Midwives contribute to the perinatal health of childbearing women and their children worldwide. This applies to the physical, but also to psychological, emotional and social aspects of health. Counselling healthy pregnant women, accompanying labouring women, supporting the transition into the life phase of motherhood/parenthood are fundamentally of primary prevention and ideally enable a positive experience of this life phase. In Germany, midwives work in all settings and in different organisational structures.
