Abstract
The polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most frequent endocrine disorder of women in the reproductive phase. Important determinants for the extent and course of the disorder are the presence of a metabolic syndrome with obesity, insulin resistance and hypercortisolism. The metabolic syndrome is influenced by behavioral factors like eating behavior and physical activity. There are data hinting to a link between PCOS, eating disorders, depressive disorders and other psychiatric disorders. This opens a behavioral medicine perspective to the treatment of PCOS.
