Abstract
Due to the new law»Gesetz zum Schutz von Kindern mit Varianten der Geschlechtsentwicklung« (law for the protection of children with variants of sex development), pronounced genital malformations can only be operated on in childhood if a family court gives its consent. Consent is subject to the opinion of an interdisciplinary commission. The commission must decide whether such an intervention is in the best interests of the child and whether it is so urgent that it cannot wait until the child reaches the age at which consent can be given.
