Abstract

Antibiotic resistance rates are on the rise worldwide. To perpetuate therapy options for complex infectious diseases, it is crucial to adopt rational antibiotic treatment strategies. The implementation of an interdisciplinary antibiotic stewardship team improved the quality of antiinfective prescribing. Regular interventions performed by an adequately staffed team with mandate and dedicated time for ABS lead to the reduction of antibiotic consumption density and costs. Thus, the establishment of an ABSteam was a cost-effective measure in a university medical care center.
