Abstract

The recommendations presented here for the therapeutic use of IV Ig in dermatology demonstrate the significance of IVIg therapy for numerous autoimmune diseases of the skin and for toxic epidermal necrolysis. The role of IVIg therapy in otherwise therapy-recalcitrant diseases is undisputed. The therapeutic recommendations for the above-mentioned diseases thus rest on solid data. In view of the to-date unclear mechanism of action of IVIg in vivo, further efforts must be made to develop suitable standard therapies for the affected patient populations. This demands performing and evaluating even more extensive case series in different clinics. The therapeutic recommendations presented here could serve as foundation. The introduction of this EU guideline in clinical practice will optimize the use of IVIg in dermatology all over Europe.
