A Variational Settingfor Volume Constrained Image Registration

We consider image registration, which is the determination of ageometrical transformation that aligns points in one view of an object withcorresponding points in another view. In this paper we propose constrainedvariational methods which aim for controlling the change of area or volumeunder registration transformation. We show that the method is well-posed,prove convergence of a finite element method, and present numerical examplesfor 3D registration.
