Abstract

Preliminary results are reported on the efficacy of a 4 months group therapy (n = 8) compared with waiting list controls (n = 9) in women with bulimia. Treatment consisted of a standard behaviorally oriented group program combined with basic nutritional management. A significant decrease in binge frequency and psychopathology (e.g. drive for thinness, depression) was found in the treated group but not in the waiting-list patients. Improvement in treated subjects remained stable 3 months after treatment termination.
