Abstract
A hybrid model for the description of cellular tumor growth, which additionally considers the nutrient concentration, is proposed. To model the nutrient distribution generated by a nearby source of nutrients two partial differential equations have to be solved. The solution is computed on the basis of a finite element method and itself influences the probability models for the cellular action. The method of cellular automata is used for the simulation of mitosis, chemotaxis and necrosis for each individual tumor cell. In addition, immune cells are introduced, which in turn allows for modeling lysis. These actions are controlled by a set of probabilistic models that depend on the nutrient supply and the respective population.
