Abstract
The study examined the imaging and material properties of two 3D printed versions of the NEMA NU 4-2008 image quality phantom for small animal Positron Emission Tomography compared with a manufactured and a commercial one (used as reference). Based on the present results it could be shown that the support material of the 3D printer has an influence on the later phantom quality. Also of importance is the alignment of the print layers. A basic suitability of 3D printed phantoms for all imaging modalities does not seem to be admissible and should be carefully evaluated in advance.
