Abstract
Stable six-coordinate iron(III) complexes of the pendant arm macrocycles 1,4,7-tris(4-tert-butyl-2-mercaptobenzyl)-1,4,7-triazacyclononane and 1,4,7-tris(mercaptopropyl)-1,4,7-triazacyclononane each of which provide a fac-N3S3 donor set have been synthesized and characterized by UV-vis and ESR spectroscopy. These complexes serve as a structural model for the bacterial enzyme nitrile hydratase from Brevibacterium, sp.
