EBisMA: Use of bisphosphonates in adjuvant therapy for primary breast cancer

Project: Endowments Endowments

Project Details

Description

In this combined cross-sectional and follow-up study, breast cancer patients from the breast centres of the Oncological Care Register (OVR at the Institute for Cancer Epidemiology) and patients from the Luebeck Breast Centre will be contacted. The patients are asked to complete a questionnaire about their cancer treatment, with particular reference to bisphosphonate therapy.
The data collected will be evaluated together with the clinical data. In 2013, the data of the patients will be compared with the OVR and the Luebeck Breast Centre in terms of disease-free survival.
The aim of this study is to describe the use of bisphosphonates in the treatment of primary breast cancer. It aims to show how often bisphosphonates are being used for adjuvant therapy without approval, which bisphosphonates are preferred and what clinical characteristics the patients undergoing adjuvant bisphosphonate therapy show.
Another aim is to describe disease-free survival for patients receiving adjuvant bisphosphonate therapy in comparison to patients not receiving bisphosphonates.
The specific question to be addressed is the use of bisphosphonates in adjuvant breast cancer therapy in women diagnosed with non-distant metastatic primary breast cancer.
