CRC/Transregio TRR 296 LocoTact, Project P12: TH receptor α1 at the crossroad of autonomic and cardiac functions in mice

Project: DFG ProjectsDFG Joint Research: Collaborative Research Center/ Transregios

Project Details

Description

TH is of great importance for cardiac rhythmicity, as tachycardia is often observed in hyperthyroidism, while bradycardia is a leading symptom in hypothyroid patients. It is commonly assumed that the regulation of heart rate by TH is predominantly an effect of TH within the heart; however, recent studies showed that also central TH actions contribute to this phenotype. In the proposed project we now aim to dissect the local from the central actions of TH in the control of heart rate with a focus on the predominant receptor in heart and brain, TRα1.
