Project Details

Description

The study is a follow-up investigation of a population-based sample of over 6,000 different cancer patients (breast, colon and prostate cancer, diagnosed from 1994 to 2004) from six German regions (Saarland, Schleswig-Holstein, Muenster/North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hamburg, Bremen), who gave detailed information on treatment, quality of life and other issues related to cancer survival in 2009/2010. Information on diagnosis date, tumour stage, location and recurrence (if applicable) was supplemented by cancer registries.

Research questions of CAESAR-2:
Determination of
(a) the quality of life of long-term survivors (LTS),
(b) changes in the quality of life over a period of five years,
(c) the occurrence and prevalence of complications,
(d) the frequency of recurrence and progression of the disease in LTS and its impact on quality of life and prognosis,
(e) the impact of initial variables (e.g., quality of life, fatigue) and lifestyle factors on survival and quality of life.
