The university's Research Awards are supported by its successful spin-off Perfood. Luebeck-based Perfood GmbH (www.perfood.de) develops a range of digital therapies based on personalized nutrition. The company was founded in 2017 by Dominik Burziwoda (CEO), Dr. Torsten Schröder (Chief Medical Officer), Dr. Christoph Twesten (CTO) and Prof. Dr. Christian Sina, Director of Luebeck`s Institute of Nutritional Medicine.

The Perfood Research Award 2022 for an outstanding publication in the university's STEM fields is awarded to Dr. rer. nat. Robert Creutznacher for his scientific paper "NMR Experiments Provide Insights into Ligand-Binding to the SARSCoV-2 Spike Protein Receptor-Binding Domain".
