General Description

Dr. med. Philipp Steven receives the Heinrich Draeger Research Award 2008 for his work "Experimental induction and three-dimensional two-photon imaging of conjunctiva-associated lymphoid tissue".
Dr. Steven, born 1976 in Gronau/Westfalen, has been working as a physician and as aresearcher at the Department of Ophthalmology since 2003 (Director: Prof. Dr. med. Salvatore Grisanti). He also works as a scientist at the Institute of Anatomy (Director: Prof. Dr. med. Jürgen Westermann). His research interests include ocular surface immunology and the development of an animal model and establishment of 2-photon microscopy to study immunological defense mechanisms of the conjunctiva. Dr. Steven is a member of the junior group "Inflammation of the Epithelium" and founder and speaker of the research network 2-PIN.

The Heinrich Draeger Research Award was established in 2004 by the Dräger family and Drägerwerk AG on the initiative of Mrs. Lisa Dräger.
Once a year, the University of Luebeck awards this prize in recognition of a particularly outstanding scientific publication based on results that were primarily generated at the university. The prize is awarded alternately to scientists from the STEM and Medicine faculties.
