Die Arbeitsgruppe „Barriere-Organe“ wird von Peter König geleitet: Er analysiert den Ablauf von Immunantworten in der Lunge mit dem Fokus auf Zilien tragende Zellen der Luftwege und Alveolar-Epithelzellen vom Typ II im Lungengewebe. Folgende Techniken werden eingesetzt: Explantation und Kultur von tierischem und menschlichem Lungengewebe, Multiphotonen-Mikroskopie von Lungengewebe in vivo. Der Arbeitsgruppenleiter ist Mitglied in folgenden Forschungsverbünden: Exzellenzcluster „Entzündung an Grenzflächen“, BMBF-Projekt „Carbon Black“ im Rahmen von NanoCare, Deutsches Zentrum für Lungenforschung und im internationalen Graduiertenkolleg „Regulation von Entzündung im Rahmen von Allergie und Infektion“.
