About us

Virology

The virology group works with positive strand RNA viruses of the family Flaviviridae  and Noroviruses.

Main focus of research are RNA replication, virion morphogenesis and virus-host interactions.

Cell Biology

The main focus in cell biology is on embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells as in vitro model systems to study mechanisms of cell differentiation, including cell-matrix and cell-virus interactions.

Another central aspect is the molecular and functional analysis of connective tissue in several human disorders - especially in wound healing and sclerotic skin diseases.

Research Areas and Centers

  • Academic Focus: Center for Infection and Inflammation Research (ZIEL)
  • NUM: National Association of University Hospitals investigating SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 / Coronavirus
  • Centers: Center for Structural and Cell Biology (CSCM/ZMSZ)
