About us

Research focus “Sustainable biotechnology”

Cells are in the focus  of modern, sustainable biotechnology. As a renewable raw material, cells cultivated in vitro open up a wide range of potential applications for medicine, bioproduction and nutrition.

Many of the relevant processes, such as cell isolation, cell proliferation and three-dimensional culture, have not yet been sufficiently explored in terms of cell and molecular biology.

Our aim is to understand the needs of a cell in culture in depth and to adapt the culture conditions in the best possible way. Our questions address cell isolation methods, the composition of culture media and cell-matrix interaction.

Through the application-oriented focus of our research projects, we translate findings into usable technologies and thus support the university's transfer strategy.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Our work contributes towards the following SDG(s):

  • SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-being
