The Institute
The Institute of Family Medicine at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Lübeck, is committed to students' undergraduate education, research in family medicine as well as health services research, and attends the "Verbundweiterbildung plus" in Schleswig-Holstein, a postgraduate rotation network program for trainees in family medicine specialty training.
Teaching
The institute's teaching aims at imparting the specific characteristics and the complexity of family medicine in a structured approach. We want to achieve both, increasing knowledge and convey the pleasure related to practicing this discipline.

Being a clinical-generalist discipline family medicine offers a great variety of research areas. The Institute of Family Medicine is working on research questions with immediate relevance for practice.
History
Since 1974 family medicine has been taught at the Medical School of Lübeck. The first assistant lecturers and at the same time founder of the "Lübeck Modell" were Prof. Dr. Diedrich Dieckhoff, Dr. Wolfgang Bredow and Dr. Carsten Groth. Dr. Dietrich Klepsch and Dr. Heilwig Hooß followed later on. In 1998, Prof. Dr. Jens-Martin Träder received a university teaching position. Dr. Frank Niebuhr followed in 2001 and Andreas von Kügelen in 2002. In the meantime, the former Medical School of Lübeck became the Medical University of Lübeck in 1985 and finally, the University of Lübeck in 2002. The Institute of Family Medicine at the University of Lübeck was founded in 2010. In 2011, Prof. Dr. Träder was appointed to the institute's educational professorship.
