Abstract

The death of a 74-year-old man is reported, in whom a gastrointestinal bleeding was documented during the external examination of the corpse as the cause of death after he was found in his flat; however, the second post-mortem examination prior to cremation showed a suspicious head injury. The subsequent forensic autopsy revealed a fatal gunshot to the head, which had been inflicted suicidally by a self-constructed shooting device. The case once again emphasizes the necessity for a sufficient post-mortem external examination of the corpse.
