Abstract
In order to promote consistency and usability in the development of interactive systems, style guides have repeatedly been recommended as supporting tools. In practice, however, their consistent implementation and use rarely take place. While earlier research emphasized the relevance of style guides in human-centered design, the usability of style guides themselves has been considered to a lesser degree. An important aspect is the structuring of style guides to ensure that information and design elements are easily accessible to users. Based on results of a card sorting study, design principles for structuring interactive style guides are presented and discussed.
