Abstract
We describe a system and a method for X-ray-based navigation in orthopaedic. Our method combines a X-ray camera with an infrared tracking system. The main benefits of this approach are the following: (1) High accuracy due to exact X-ray calibration with a cubic camera model. (2) Simplicity of use in clinical settings and moderate requirements in terms of workspace utilization and hardware. (3) Minimal modification requirements for clinical protocols. (4) Enhanced intra-operative image quality and reliability, achieved by avoiding the use of calibration bodies mounted to the X-ray source during treatment. (5) Substantial reduction of intra-operative computing time.
