Abstract
A certain preoperative diagnosis of osteomyelitis is difficult. The anamnesis, physical examination, laboratory medicine and diagnostic radiography are of utter importance. Postoperative bacteriological and histopathological analyses are confirmatory. The aim of this research study was the analysis of bone protein assays to detect a significant difference between acutely infected and no longer acutely infected bone. The first results demonstrate similar protein expression patterns between acute and no longer acute osteomyelitis with only 31 significantly different regulated protein spots. In summary after standardized sample recovery and preparation it is possible to obtain a well-defined prediction of acute and no longer acute osteomyelitis and healthy bone.
