Abstract
We have investigated different types of high-temperature water-gas shift catalysts and their precursors by means of various physical methods and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The samples were of practically identical chemical composition and were based upon iron oxide doped with chromium oxide; however, they were prepared by different routes. We conclude from our investigations that the observed activity and stability differences are probably due to differences in particle size and in the distribution of the chromium within the bimetallic particles.
